In a secluded farmhouse along Dera Mandi Road in South Delhi, an operation concealed from public view thrived under the cover of night. As darkness fell, a steady procession of cars entered the gates of the estate. Each driver whispered the passphrase "guruji" to the on-site guard to gain access.
Contrary to the extravagant wedding ceremonies that such properties are often known for, this location housed an illegal casino. A sanctuary for high-stakes gambling, the casino was frequented by an elite clientele, including businessmen, property developers, and dealers in the real estate industry.
Just weeks after 39 arrests were made in an illegal casino bust in Gurgaon, another illegal gambling den has been raided. When you sign up at any new casinos from our site, you can guarantee we have tested them to make sure they are in line with the law.
Inside the lavishly decorated farmhouse, a variety of casino tables were set up to host games such as roulette, blackjack, and poker. Customers were seen wagering enormous sums, sometimes running into lakhs or even crores of rupees. As stakes escalated, women were employed to offer the patrons top-shelf liquor and flavoured hookahs. The environment was enhanced with a sound system playing an eclectic blend of jazz and blues, to which triumphant gamblers danced.
Acting on an anonymous tip, the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police orchestrated a meticulous raid on the illicit venue on a fateful Thursday night. On arrival, officers found 47 individuals, all immersed in various forms of gambling. Five men, identified as the main organisers of the operation, were arrested on the spot.
According to police sources, to make the venue more appealing, the organisers had employed women to serve alcohol and tokens to gamblers. These women were compensated generously for their services, the specifics of which are still under investigation.
The Special Commissioner of Crime, Ravindra Yadav, confirmed that the police confiscated a range of items during the raid. The haul included Rs 8 lakh in cash, multiple casino tables, gambling tokens, illicit alcohol, a sophisticated music system, and hookahs.
The raid was spearheaded by Inspectors Satender Mohan, Pawan, and Mahipal, following surveillance and investigative work. A special team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Amit Goel and Assistant Commissioner of Police Ramesh Lamba executed the operation seamlessly.
Upon interrogation, the apprehended organisers disclosed that the illegal establishment was functioning in a rented property under the jurisdiction of the Fatehpur Beri police station. Entry to the venue was heavily restricted, facilitated only by a shared WhatsApp location and a secret passphrase, "guruji," known only to the chosen clientele.
The venue was designed to accommodate eight players at each of its gaming tables. Gamblers had the option of purchasing or borrowing tokens from the organisers, which they could redeem for cash at a specified location the following day. Various denominations of tokens were used, ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 10,000, to facilitate different levels of wagering.
During a thorough search of the premises, police also discovered illegal liquor stores operating without a license, selling bottles to customers who frequented the casino.
The detained organisers were later identified as Amit Kumar, 39; Satender Sehgal, 29; Sahil Gujral, 35; Tejinder Singh, 37; and Mithun Taneja, 43, all of whom are residents of Faridabad.
The concerted efforts of law enforcement have successfully dismantled an extensive underground gambling operation, arresting key players and seizing crucial evidence. The investigation is ongoing, as authorities work diligently to unravel the intricacies of this complex case.
